Only two people at Appenzeller Alpenbitter AG have access to the recipes for the herb mixes – Beat Kölbener and Walter Regli. Both are members of the founding and owner family, and bearers of a well-kept secret.
And they, therefore, are also the ones who put together the mixtures in the herb room. They scoop the herbs from the big containers, weigh them and check the quantities before passing them on to be processed.
We have arranged the former herb room for our visitors.
Here we display all of the herbs, flowers, roots and spices used in Appenzeller Alpenbitter, with the exception of vanilla.
Here, visitors can inspect, sniff and touch the herbs.
