Appenzell has many faces, with the traditional and the modern brought together in the midst of a spectacular Alpine landscape. Customs and traditions are well established among the population and are passed on with pride from generation to generation.

Many Appenzell residents have a close relationship with the natural environment and are fascinated by herbs and their uses. Thanks to a pilot project, various farming families are now successfully cultivating herbs for Appenzeller Alpenbitter.
